On 28 June 2005 the VKF (Flemish Karate Federation) decided to include Van Den Nest Kiliaan, Gautier Vito, Van Belle Ilse and Lekens Mike in the Shobu-elite group - promising athletes category C for the discipline Kata. A promising athlete category C is obligated to participate at training sessions and courses organised by the sport commission multi style. Category C-athletes is a group used to spot potential talent in an early stage within the Flemish Karate Federation. You are enlisted in this group for a period of 6 months and within these 6 months you have to prove yourself as a potential talent. Also De Poorter Kristof was spotted during the latest competitions and on the regional kumite trainings in Berchem. He was included in the Shobu-elite group - promising athletes category C for the discipline kumite on 03/12/2005.

Karate still no Olympic discipline

Karate was, together with squash, golf, roller sports and rugby, part of an election to decide which sport would be included in the Olympic games of 2012. Eventually only Karate en Squash were the only two left in the election, but neither one of them managed to receive a 2/3 majority that is necessary to become part of the 26 sports that the Olympic games are now made of.
